Shaye

RVT

Shaye is a dedicated RVT at OVH, committed to providing exceptional care for your beloved pets during their visits. She and her family share their home with an adorable trio of cats: Toby, Maurice, and Astrid, who keep them entertained with their unique personalities.

At the hospital, Shaye’s go-to pick-me-up is iced tea, no matter the season—it’s her fuel for those long, rewarding days. Shaye’s height is a helpful asset, whether it’s reaching the top shelf or safely guiding adventurous cats who decide to explore a little too much during their visits.

Before joining OVH, Shaye spent over six years as a volleyball blocker, a skill that now comes in handy both at work and in everyday life. Outside of her veterinary career, she’s a talented artist with a knack for creating stunning pieces. Whether it’s redecorating a space or adding a personal touch to our hospital, Shaye’s creativity shines.

One day, Shaye dreams of traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—a destination that’s high on her bucket list. Until then, she’s focused on delivering compassionate care and making sure every pet and client feels at home at OVH.

Questions

  • What's your favorite animal and why?

I have a deep appreciation for turtles and tortoises. There’s something incredibly peaceful and grounding about them that draws me in. They always seem like they’re holding onto some fascinating secret they wish they could share. (Although I’ll admit, snapping turtles are the exception—they’re not exactly peaceful!)

  • What's the most unusual pet you've ever cared for?

While not technically pets, I once cared for an injured seagull before a wildlife rehabilitation center took over. Over the years, I’ve also had the chance to care for pigeons, groundhogs, chipmunks, and baby birds in similar situations. It’s always rewarding to play a small role in their recovery.

  • What's your favorite part about working with animals?

I love how straightforward animals are. They don’t play games or hide their feelings—if they need something or feel a certain way, they’ll let you know. It’s refreshing to connect with creatures that communicate so honestly.

  • What inspired you to work in this industry?

Growing up, my mom and I often fostered “hopeless” cases—animals that needed extra care and compassion to thrive. Watching these scared, vulnerable animals transform with a little love and patience left a lasting impact on me and inspired me to dedicate my career to helping them.

  • What advice would you give to pet owners to ensure their pets lead healthy lives?

One of the best pieces of advice I can offer is to invest in pet insurance. While it’s a small monthly expense, it can make a world of difference during emergencies by relieving financial stress and allowing you to focus entirely on your pet’s well-being.
