Questions

Can you share a memorable story about a pet you have treated?
Two years ago, on Christmas Eve, a client arrived at OVH with a snow-covered carrier, holding onto the hope that the cat inside might be his long-lost pet. He requested a microchip scan, explaining that his cat had been missing for two years. The scan confirmed his hopes—it was indeed his beloved companion. Witnessing their heartfelt reunion, that evening truly felt like a Christmas miracle!

What’s is your pets name and why did you choose it?
I have a 3-year-old AMPA-registered American Mini Pig—though “mini” might not be the best description, as he weighs in at a hefty 400 lbs, named Buddy. He is somewhat of a local celebrity, having been featured in several newspaper articles. He loves taking walks in the park and socializing with friends at the dog park.
My household is also home to a wonderful mix of pets: three senior cats, a playful 2-year-old deaf cat, a mischievous ferret, and a fascinating Plecostomus. Each one brings their own unique personality and joy to our family!
-
What inspired you to work in this industry?
My passion for animal welfare and helping pet owners is what drives me in this field. I feel truly fortunate to have a role where I can address pet owners’ questions and concerns, offering both emotional support and practical guidance. Making a positive difference for pets and their families is what inspires me every day.

What advancements in veterinary medicine are you most excited about?
I’m particularly excited about SENVELGO (velagliflozin oral solution) for cats with diabetes. This innovative medication helps improve glycemic control in otherwise healthy cats with diabetes mellitus who haven’t previously been treated with insulin. It’s a once-daily oral solution that can be given directly into the cat’s mouth or mixed with a small amount of wet food.
My goal is to help pet owners find treatments that are effective, easy to use, and comfortable for both them and their pets. Advancements like this are making a real difference in improving the quality of life for pets and their families.

How do you stay updated with the latest developments in veterinary care?
I stay current by pursuing continuing education courses that align with my professional interests. This year, I’m excited to attend the Atlantic Veterinary Conference in Halifax, where I’ll have the opportunity to learn alongside colleagues from across Atlantic Canada. It’s a fantastic chance to explore the latest advancements in veterinary care and bring that knowledge back to better serve our patients and clients.
