Gavin is a dedicated Veterinary Assistant at Oromocto Veterinary Hospital, where he plays a vital role in ensuring the clinic operates smoothly and efficiently. His multifaceted responsibilities include assisting in surgery, treatments, and appointments, as well as supporting the Client Services team. From running lab work and restraining patients for procedures to prepping equipment for surgeries, Gavin’s focus is on providing seamless support to both his team and the animals in their care.

With a background in customer service and labor-intensive roles, Gavin brings a well-rounded skill set to his position. His graduation from Eastern College’s Veterinary Assistant program has equipped him with the knowledge and expertise to deliver exceptional care to both clients and patients.

Outside of work, Gavin is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys exploring the beautiful landscapes of New Brunswick through camping and hiking. When he’s not adventuring, you’ll likely find him immersed in a good sci-fi or urban fantasy novel, feeding his love for imaginative storytelling.

What's your favorite animal and why?

Lions are my favorite animal. They’re stunning, intelligent, and incredibly powerful creatures. I admire their loyalty within their prides and their fascinating ability to produce infrasound with their roars—a low-frequency sound humans can’t hear but that can paralyze prey.
What is your pet’s name and how did you come up with it?

I’m a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, so one of my two cats is named Zuko.
If you could communicate with animals, what would you ask them?

I’d love to know their thoughts on music. What genres would they enjoy? Would they prefer Harry Belafonte or Nickelback? It’d be amazing to discover their musical tastes!
What inspired you to work in this industry?

Growing up, I was captivated by animal shows like Zoboomafoo, Stanley, and The Crocodile Hunter. I collected animal encyclopedias and loved learning fascinating facts about them. As I got older, I realized I could combine my passion for animals with my desire to help others by pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. Knowing I can help pets and their owners live happier, healthier lives is incredibly fulfilling.
What advice would you give to pet owners?

Be the best advocate for your pet. They can’t speak for themselves, so it’s our responsibility to make thoughtful, informed decisions to ensure their health and happiness.
